Our History

The Journey of MASO

Originally established in 1991 as Midlands AIDS Service Organisation, MASO has evolved into a multi-sectoral development NGO addressing Zimbabwe's emerging challenges.

MASO Team

Multi-Aid Support Organisation (MASO) was founded in 1991 in Gweru, Zimbabwe, during a severe HIV and AIDS crisis. Initially named Midlands AIDS Service Organisation, our mandate focused on HIV prevention, care, treatment support, and community awareness. Over three decades, we expanded beyond HIV programming to include livelihoods support, climate change adaptation, health promotion, and social protection. In 2023-2024, we officially rebranded to Multi-Aid Support Organisation while retaining MASO as our acronym, marking our evolution into a multi-sectoral development NGO addressing climate change, environmental degradation, public health, and community resilience across Zimbabwe.

Key Moments in MASO's Journey

1991

Foundation

MASO was established in 1991 as Midlands AIDS Service Organisation during Zimbabwe's severe HIV and AIDS crisis. Our initial mandate focused on HIV prevention, care, treatment support, and community awareness, particularly supporting vulnerable households and caregivers affected by epidemic.

2000s

Programme Expansion

Drawing from extensive experience in health interventions and community mobilisation, MASO began integrating broader developmental initiatives including livelihoods support, climate change adaptation, health promotion, and social protection programmes to address evolving community needs.

2023-24

Rebranding & Evolution

MASO officially rebranded from Midlands AIDS Service Organisation to Multi-Aid Support Organisation, marking a strategic shift to a multi-sectoral development NGO. Today, we operate as a registered national non-profit making organization dedicated to building resilient, self-reliant communities through integrated programmes in health, climate resilience, environmental sustainability, public policy engagement, and community empowerment.
